A video that shows Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh at a U.S. military base that specializes in explosives and demolition training over a year after he supposedly left the army puts the official story of the April 19 1995 federal building bombing under serious doubt and mandates a re-opening of an investigation into the terror attack that killed 168 people.
The video was released by Bill Bean, a film producer who has suffered intense surveillance and harassment since taking the footage, and is the subject of a February 2007 Hustler Magazine feature story.

In the latest attack on the first amendment, a shocking video has emerged of the NYPD attacking a protestor and stealing his camera and footage at a demonstration demanding justice for an independent video journalist who was shot and killed earlier this year.
The filmmaker, Flux Rostrum, was filming the interaction between protestors and police outside the Mexican Consulate in late October at a demonstration protesting the murder of journalist Brad Will, who was shot and killed on October 27, 2006 during the teachers’ strike in the Mexican city of Oaxaca. His murderers are believed to be local officials.
Flux was not arrested, nor did he receive a receipt for seized property. Without any warning, he was jumped by two police officers, one of whom is an NYPD captain, and knocked down onto the asphalt of 39th Street. A police officer then snatched the camera out of Flux’s hands. As Flux attempted to protect himself and his equipment from being trampled and beaten, the cop with the camera conferred with another officer and scurried back into the building to hide the camera.
Video of the events quite clearly shows the cop saying “I want that camera” before Flux is jumped and attacked.

Report: Pentagon planning Navy buildup as ‘warning to Iran’

The U.S. military is “planning a major buildup” of its naval forces in the Persian Gulf region “as a warning to Iran,” reports CBS News, as quoted by Reuters.
A senior official in the Department of Defense said “the report was ‘premature’ and appeared to be drawing ‘conclusions from assumptions,’” according to Reuters. The Pentagon declined comment, but an additional Defense official described the report as “speculative.”
CBS said that “the buildup … was not aimed at an attack on Iran but to discourage what U.S. officials view as increasingly provocative acts by Tehran.”

The Government’s case for going to war in Iraq has been torn apart by the publication of previously suppressed evidence that Tony Blair lied over Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction.
A devastating attack on Mr Blair’s justification for military action by Carne Ross, Britain’s key negotiator at the UN, has been kept under wraps until now because he was threatened with being charged with breaching the Official Secrets Act.
In the testimony revealed today Mr Ross, 40, who helped negotiate several UN security resolutions on Iraq, makes it clear that Mr Blair must have known Saddam Hussein possessed no weapons of mass destruction. He said that during his posting to the UN, “at no time did HMG [Her Majesty's Government] assess that Iraq’s WMD (or any other capability) posed a threat to the UK or its interests.”

New software allows citizens to bypass their government’s internet censorship efforts

(NewsTarget) Censorship on the world wide web may be coming to an end for many web surfers in various parts of the country, as a new tool has been created that is capable of circumventing government censorship of the web.
According to researchers, the free program has been constructed to let citizens of countries with restricted web access retrieve and display web pages from anywhere. The program, from The University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab software, is called Psiphon and it will be released on Dec. 1.
With internet censorship being a growing issue, several countries have come under fire for blocking access to certain parts of the Internet for citizens of those countries. Ronald Deibert, director of the Citizen Lab, recently told the New York Times that “Governments have militarized their censorship efforts to an incredible extent so we’re trying to reverse some of that and restore that promise that the internet once had for unfettered access and communication.”
Reporters without Borders recently released a list of 13 countries it believed were suppressing freedom of expression on the Internet, including Syria, China and Vietnam. Toronto’s Citizen Lab, however, believes its program will allow surfers to bypass web censorship completely.
The Citizen Lab’s Psiphon program works through social networks. An internet user in an uncensored country can download the program to their computer. By doing this, that person’s computer then becomes an access point for other computers to use in order to access anything on the internet.
Once the program is downloaded and installed, these customers in unblocked countries can then give contacts in censored countries a unique web address, login and password. This then makes it possible for restricted users to freely browse the web through an encrypted connection to that computer’s proxy server.

One of the last acts of Congress was to send President Bush a bill that establishes a $38 million program of National Park Service grants to preserve Japanese POW internment camps in Hawaii, California, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Idaho. Is this really in the name of historical interest or does it dovetail with programs on the books to intern hundreds of thousands of dissidents in a time of crisis?
The Honolulu Advertiser reports,
“Notorious internment camps where Japanese-Americans were kept behind barbed wire during World War II, including a camp in Honouliuli Gulch, will be preserved as stark reminders of how the United States turned on some of its citizens in a time of fear.”
“The National Park Service already operates facilities at two of the 10 War Relocation Authority camps: Manzanar National Historic Site in California and the Minidoka Internment National Monument in Idaho. The money in the bill the House passed today on a voice vote and sent to Bush would go to them and eight others, to be operated by state and local governments or organizations.”

A federal judge Wednesday dismissed [ruling, PDF] a habeas corpus petition brought by Guantanamo detainee Salim Hamdan [Trial Watch profile], finding it was clearly barred under the controversial habeas-stripping language [JURIST report] of the new Military Commissions Act (MCA) [text, PDF] even though it was pending at the time the Act was passed. Agreeing with a position [JURIST report] on pending habeas petitions taken earlier this fall by the US Department of Justice, US District Judge James Robertson wrote in the first ruling to construe the MCA:
Hamdan’s lengthy detention beyond American borders but within the jurisdictional authority of the United States is historically unique.

State, local agencies pursue plug-in conversions for fleets of hybrid vehicles

(NewsTarget) Many state and local governments are investigating whether or not it is possible to convert their fleets of hybrid cars and trucks in to plug-in hybrids.
Gasoline-electric hybrids use both electric and gas motors, but plug-in hybrids can be recharged from a wall socket and come with more battery packs, which allows them to rely on electricity more often than gasoline. These vehicles get roughly 100 miles to the gallon and emit less greenhouse gas than gasoline-driven vehicles or even regular gasoline-electric hybrids.
According to New York State Energy Research and Developmental Authority official Ray Hull, the agency has projected a budget of $10 million to try the plug-ins and convert their current hybrids. It recently solicited contract bids for nine plug-in hybrids, and if the trial period is successful, the state will attempt to convert its 535 hybrids into plug-ins. Gov. George Pataki helped pass the program through New York legislature during the summer, Hull said.
Hull also said the state would probably get a modified version of the Toyota Prius — the first production gasoline-electric hybrid — later in the year.

White House OKs Massive Pentagon Budget Increase

The White House has approved a $468.9 billion budget for the Pentagon in fiscal year 2008, a six percent increase over last year’s request, according to a Defense Department document obtained by Reuters. It is also asking the Pentagon to cover some Army and Marine Corps war costs in Iraq and Afghanistan as part of the regular budget, rather than through emergency budget requests. The 2008 budget request is $4.7 billion more than the level the Pentagon forecast in its 2007 budget documents.

West Hawaii Today”s article of Dec. 8th about the contractors working on unexploded ordnance at Lalamilo was certainly timely considering the uncertain legal status of the Stryker Brigade in Hawaii. It was the explosives contractors at Schofield who led private citizens to the truth of what the military has been doing in Hawaii with depleted uranium. The military has long vigorously asserted that it never used DU in Hawaii and it did not disclose to the public that DU was incontestably found at a firing range at Schofield Barracks. Only because a private citizen requested freedom of information email documents regarding DU ordnance was it brought to light in January.
The public should be very aware and concerned about the health risks of depleted uranium munitions used by the US military. Two of the depleted uranium weapons plants on the Mainland became Superfund sites, and Colonie, NY, was tragically contaminated with alpha radiation from depleted uranium smoke, or poison gas radiation, from the smokestack of the DU plant. George Bush Sr. and Richard Cheney introduced DU nuclear warfare in Gulf War I. George Bush Sr. believed nuclear war was winnable, as apparently does his son. Cheney is still there. The huge spectacular fireballs seen on CNN in Operation Desert Storm were literally ignited white hot U-238 isotope at 5000 degrees as it became the insoluble ceramic nanoparticulate smoke of DU. The US military has known of the poisonous nature of radioactive gas warfare since at least the Groves memo of 1943. The military’s first expert on DU contamination, Dr. Douglas Rokke, called for a planetary ban on DU, as did his physician Dr. Asaf Durakovic who did the most significant DU research on animals, some 85% of which develop lung cancer from DU smoke. There is polonium in tobacco, a contributor to lung cancer; polonium entered the discussion from the Russian spy poisonings. The abrupt departure of Principi from Veterans Affairs seems related to the massive veterans’ health care costs accruing from Gulf War I and the current invasion where more than ten times the ODS depleted uranium has been used on Iraq, making areas of Baghdad hot radioactivly forever with poison dust that re-enters the air with every dust storm.
The US military has a pattern of DU pronouncements that do not prove to be true. In Germany first they said they never used DU. Then they admitted it once, then just a few times, and then when it was impossible to lie anymore they admitted to scores of incidences. They were not forthcoming about DU use in Okinawa or Schofield. Vieques, Puerto Rico was bombarded illegally with DU by the US Navy and eventually shut down. The Navy moved its DU test firing to Australia in 2003 where a secret agreement with the government of this uranium producing nation allows the Navy to conduct DU tests that would be illegal in the US. Already in just three years there is evidence of birth defects in the affected community, Shoalwater. Vieques has to be the most tragic example of firing range disaster. Not only do the residents directly downwind of the range (like Waikioloa is downwind of Pohakuloa) have the highest rate of cancer in Puerto Rico, they will now be subjected to the very same method of unexploded ordnance cleanup as the article described, that is, burning and explosion in place. This will be the ulitimate destruction of the Vieques’ residents’ healh since U-238, which makes up 99.8% of DU, catches fire in an instant and burns fiercely igniting other ordnance nearby. The burning DU will shower Vieques with radioactive fallout in the form of nanoparticulate aerosols. The insoluble ceramic uranium oxide cannot be easily excreted from the body unlike the random natural uranium dispersed in small amounts in the environment. Radiation levels in the middle of Baghdad have reached thousands of times normal background levels; one simply cannot compare natural uranium to DU munitions smoke in either concentration of radiation or its solubility in biosystems. DU smoke particles are absorbed into the body mostly through the lungs where they lodge before making a further migration into other organs.
An AP report in September informed us that the manufacturer of the Strykers, General Dynamics, had just fitted the vehicles with 105mm tank cannons designed to fire depleted uranium at armored targets. The centerpiece of the disastrous Pohakuloa destruction will be its live fire anti armor training area. A 105 mm shell can contain several pounds of 99.8% pure 238 isotope, an alpha and gamma emitter linked to birth defects, lymphoma, and leukemia outbreaks in the Iraqi children. Pohakuloa is building a vehicle decontamination facility. The Army prevents anyone from determining if DU has already been fired at Pohakuloa and said that DU or radiologic testing was unnecessary since they don’t use it here.
It should be obvious to everyone how special and sacred our Big Island is and how utterly desecrating it is to have monster tank cannons pouring a massively increased tonnage of ordnance into our landscape. Who came up with this insane plan? Why did they do that to our island, to Vieques, to Germany and Iraq? The best solution I can think of is to return this crown land to the State of Hawaii, stop all Stryker construction, ban DU globally, and stop attacking poor weak Muslim nations with oil. Ultimately the huge palatial embassy going up in the Green Zone commemorating Bush, the generals, and private oil corporations will literally be too hot radioactively with low level alpha particulates everywhere in the environment to be inhabited by the conquerors themselves without outbreaks of the same symptoms being denied by the DOD.
